A manhunt is underway after a woman was allegedly stabbed by a man known to her outside of a gym in Sydney’s inner city.

Officers were called to a car park outside of a Crunch Fitness on O’Riordan Street in Alexandria after reports of a stabbing 12.30pm today.

Police have said they were told a man in his 40s had allegedly stabbed a 39-year-old woman in the head, neck and back.

Investigators believe they were known to each other. 

Witnesses have told 9News they helped the bleeding woman upstairs into the gym, where staff began first aid while emergency responders were called.

The woman was taken to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a stable condition after being treated by paramedics.

The man allegedly got into a car and drove away following the incident.

A crime scene has been established and an investigation is underway.
