A crime scene has been established after an overnight explosion at a suspected drug lab.

NSW Police and firefighters scrambled to a Curtis Road property in the western Sydney suburb of Chester Hill at 1.15am on Wednesday, when nearby residents heard a blast from the rear of the home.

There was no blaze to extinguish upon their arrival, instead a heavy acetone chemical smell and the remains of what police suspect is an underground drug lab.

A hazardous material team was dispatched.

As reported by Channel 9, police suspect a resident of the property may have been injured in the explosion and since fled the scene.

‘Officers attached to Bankstown Police Area Command, with assistance from NSW Fire & Rescue, located a clandestine drug lab,’ a police statement reads.

‘A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the circumstance surrounding the incident has commenced.

‘Anyone with information urged to contact police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.’
