Melissa McCarthy defends ‘wonderful’ pal Meghan Markle: She’s ‘incredibly threatening to some people’

Melissa McCarthy has Meghan Markle’s back.

The “Bridesmaids” star is perplexed and dismayed by the vicious barrage of hate hurled towards the “Suits” alum.

“It bums me out for every woman and every person, that for no reason people just like to attack,” she told Page Six at the Broadway opening of “Suffs” on Thursday night.

“A smart interesting woman that has her own life, for some reason, is incredibly threatening to some people,” the actress, 53, continued.

“I always think, how inspiring! I’ve never once been threatened by someone who is amazing. I just think how inspiring. It’s really on the people throwing the hate.”

McCarthy added that Duchess of Sussex is “wonderful” and “awesome.”

McCarthy sheepishly admitted she has to learn about the women portrayed in “Suffs,” including Alice Paul, Inez Milholland, Ida B. Wells, and Ruza Wenclawska.

“I should say I thought I did [know about women’s history] and I was a little disappointed with myself that I didn’t know the full story and it’s really set me off into a wormhole of how much I really need to learn.”

The mother of two also noted that the Broadway show written by Shaina Taub has made her “appreciate who’s come before me that’s made my life and my daughters lives better.”

Other celebs at the premiere included producer Hillary Clinton, human rights activist Malala Yousafzai, Rachel Brosnahan and Lin-Manuel Miranda.
