Airspace over parts of Lake Michigan reopens after restrictions due to defense activity, FAA says

CHICAGO (WLS) — A pedestrian is dead and two other people are injured after a Stevenson Expressway crash on Chicago’s Southwest Side, Illinois State Police said.

ISP said the crash happened on Interstate 55 at Cicero Avenue just after 6:40 p.m.

Three pedestrians were trying to change a tire on the passenger side of a vehicle stopped on the right shoulder of I-55 when a pickup truck left the roadway and traveled onto the shoulder, ISP said. The truck struck the stopped vehicle and two of the pedestrians.

ISP said one pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead. Another pedestrian and the pickup truck’s driver were transported to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries. The third pedestrian reported no injuries on the scene.

All southbound lanes were shut down at Cicero Avenue after the crash. All lanes were back open Monday morning.

Authorities did not immediately provide further information about the crash.
