Police have released a picture after a woman attacked a mother in front of her three children, grabbing her hijab in a hate crime assault.

Officers would like to speak to the woman in connection with the racially and religiously motivated attack on Stoke Newington High Street in north-east London.

The assailant made an offensive gesture towards the victim, a woman in her 40s, as she left a shop on the busy road with her children.

The mother asked the other woman what she was doing and the assailant then started racially abusing her.

The woman then hit the victim, causing lacerations to her face, before grabbing her hijab.

Officers said they were treating the attack, which took place at around 1.40pm on November 18 2023, as a hate crime.
