Heavy rain and storms are hitting much of NSW, south-east Queensland and northern Victoria.

In the 24 hours to 9am, 100mm of rain fell at Sydney’s Observatory Hill, Penrith recorded 73mm and Wahroonga 99mm.

In NSW’s Northern Rivers region, Nashua – between Lismore and Byron Bay – was dumped with 219mm, with heavy falls also recorded in Mullumbimby, Coopers Creek, Tuckurimba, Houghlaghans Creek and surrounds.

There are flood warnings in place for heavy rainfall that could lead to flash flooding, with the system expected to move south later today and into tomorrow.
