School Shooter’s Parents Trying to ‘Sanitize’ Gruesome Murders, Prosecutors Say

The parents of a Michigan teen who killed four students in 2021 will be sentenced next week.

Jennifer and James Crumbley were convicted of involuntary manslaughter for their role in the Oxford High School shooting, which was carried out by their son, Ethan Crumbley. Prosecutors are seeking 10 to 15 years for the couple, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Ethan Crumbley was 15 when he killed four students and injured seven others, including a teacher. Last year,  he pleaded guilty to his role in the shooting and was sentenced to life in prison without parole.

Jennifer and Ethan Crumbley were criminally charged for failing to get their son mental health treatment and not securing the gun used in the mass school shooting. Additionally, James Crumbley purchased his teen son the gun which he used to carry out the shooting four days later.

School officials had a meeting with Ethan Crumbley’s parents the morning of the shooting, amid concerns about a threatening drawing he drew in class. Despite this, the teen’s parents kept him in school that day. He would carry out the shooting hours later.

According to the Detroit Free Press, Oakland County Prosecutor Marc Keast said Jennifer Crumbley wants to receive house arrest which she would serve at her attorney’s guest house. The prosecutor went on to characterize her as a liar with a drinking problem.

“[It’s a] slap in the face to the severity of tragedy caused by defendant’s gross negligence,” he said, per the Daily Mail.

Meanwhile, James Crumbley is seeking time served. Keast also noted how James Crumbley was recorded in jailhouse phone calls calling Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald a “f**king b****h.”

“Your a*s is going down and you better be f**king scared,” he allegedly also stated.

Keast claimed James Crumbley’s comments show a “lack of remorse.”

Sentencing is scheduled for April 9.
