An 83-year-old man has been found dead after a fire tore through a retirement village near Brisbane.

Emergency crews rushed to the Burpengary Pines retirement village in Queensland’s Moreton Bay region at about 9pm on Monday.

Upon arrival, they were met with a fierce blaze that had already engulfed the man’s unit, leaving nothing but ashes behind.

Two cars have been reduced to rubble, along with the man’s personal belongings.

Investigators and detectives will meticulously sift through the debris to determine the cause of the tragic event.

Three neighbouring units were also damaged by the blaze.

Other residents and staff had to be evacuated. The fire was extinguished shortly after 10pm.

Police have set up a crime scene and are appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
