A woman has been shot dead by police after another was stabbed to death in Melbourne.
Police were called to a Kett Street address after reports of a woman being seriously assaulted by another woman about 6.30pm today.
Officers were “challenged by a woman armed with a knife, who was subsequently shot”, police said.
That woman, who has yet to be formally identified, died at the scene.
The stabbed woman also died at the scene.
Police said they were not looking for anyone else in relation to the tragedy and it was believed the two women were known to each other.
Homicide detectives will investigate with the oversight of the Professional Standards Command, as per protocol when a police firearm is discharged.
