It’s believed an unidentified man found dead on a Sydney street was killed in a hit-and-run incident, police say.

Police were called to the intersection of Pritchard Street and Hemphill Avenue in Mount Pritchard at about 3am, where they found a man who had suffered serious injuries.

Paramedics attended but the man was declared dead at the scene.

He had suffered significant injuries to his head and torso, Inspector Ben McIntyre told reporters this morning.

McIntyre said it was believed the man had been hit by a vehicle that failed to stop at the scene.

A passing driver noticed the body and called emergency services. He was treated for shock.

Officers are currently canvassing the street and surrounding areas for CCTV footage.

Anybody who was driving on Pritchard Street between 2am and 3am is urged to contact police.

The victim remains unidentified, but McIntyre said he appeared to be of Indian or sub-continental appearance, and aged between 20 and 30.
