Toddler Shot Dead While Out for a Walk With His Mom

A fifth suspect has been arrested in the shooting death of a 2-year-old boy who was out walking with his mother earlier this month.

The Prince George’s County Police Department said Monday that Nilson Trejo-Granados, 25, has been charged with first and second degree murder in the death of Jeremy Poou Caceres  on February 8.

As CrimeOnline reported, the toddler and his mother were hit by gunfire after at least two men carjacked an SUV and later opened fire on another group of people. The boy was pronounced dead at Children’s National Hospital in Washington, D.C., while his mother received non-life-threatening injuries.

Police arrested Israel Fuentes, Jr., 33, and Johnny Alejandro Turcios, 28, the next day, saying they were passengers in the carjacked vehicle and had gotten out and started shooting. Prince George’s County Assistant Police Chief Vernon Hale III said at the time that the public had led police to the two suspects and that officers found a firearm and the carjacked SUV.

They later arrested a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old, charging them as adults. All four are being held without bond.

According to WTTG, Trejo-Granados, a Salvadoran national, was previously charged with theft and released by Montgomery County Police even though federal immigration authorities lodged a detainer against him. The other four are in the United States legally.

According to the Washington Post, Trejo-Granados was in the backseat of the carjacked vehicle and did not get out when Turios and Fuentes did to exchange gunfire with the other group. The two teens were in the other group.
