INDIANAPOLIS — Everyone gets a raise!
There is nothing wrong with that largesse in an office setting. Sure, you might not feel special or singularly appreciated if the entire department receives an identical salary increase, but what the heck, a bigger paycheck is good for you, and isn’t that the main thing?
It is not the same in the NFL, where the 2024 salary cap inflated at an incredible rate, rising to $255.4 million per team, a record-breaking increase of $30.6 million from the previous year. That is more than $10 million higher than even the most optimistic projections for the new cap number. Isn’t (legal) gambling money grand?
This is good news for the Giants as well as for every other NFL team, so it is not as if there is any advantage gained here. With the massive increase, the Giants now have just shy of $31 million in salary cap space, according to Over the Cap, and that is a healthy place to be. That leaves the Giants in the middle of the cap pack — there are 15 teams with more cap space and 16 with less — before they make any moves or contract adjustments to free up more space, if needed.
