Chaplain Phiri Early Life – Chaplain Phiri was born on 6 April 1983 in Rusape, Zimbabwe to a poor family and brought up with her three siblings. When she was 12 years old then her parents divorced and her mother became a housemaid to foster her family.
Chaplain Phiri’s mother also resorted to prostitution and forced her children to sleep outside the house so that her clients could spend time with her. Her mother passed away because of suffering from AIDS when Chaplain was 17 years old.
Chaplain was the eldest sibling so at that time it came to her to foster her siblings. However, she managed to obtain 5 Ordinary Level subjects after 3 attempts, and before pursuing her career, she was married to a pastor at the age of 21 and her husband passed away in a car accident after the 4 months of marriage.
Chaplain Phiri Personal Life – At that time she was pregnant. Her in-laws accused Chaplain of bewitching her husband and her in-laws took away all their property. Her husband used to lead a church that abandoned Chaplain Phiri.
Chaplain Phiri gave birth to a son and faced the harsh reality of being a young widow and a single mother. To foster her son, she became a prostitute and used to sell her body for as little as $1 per client.
Her life’s turning point was when her friend invited her to a church service where she heard the gospel of Jesus Christ and then she decided to give her life to Jesus Christ leaving prostitution and starting a new life in Christ.
Chaplain Phiri was married to Enoch Phiri during her early days as a prison officer. Her second husband Enoch Phiri is a pastor, author, and television personality. The couple has their own two children but later they also divorced
Chaplain Phiri Career – Chaplain Phiri received assistance and empowerment after joining the Widows, Singles, Mothers Conference, a wing of Zaoga Forward in Faith Ministries.
She started her own busienss and applied in 2003 and was recruited as a prison officer by the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services. Chaplain Phiri trained as a chaplain and was appointed to minister to the inmates and staff.
Chaplain found her passion in prison ministry and inspired the prisoners and the officers telling them her life story. She helped many prisoners so that they could find hope and purpose in their lives. She was also an activist for the rights and welfare of the prisoners and the officers.
Later Chaplain Phiri started a church, Grace Abundant Ministries where she worked as the senior pastor. As an author, she has written a book “My Life, A Great Testimony” in which she has shared her life story.
