A large uncontained bushfire that threatened homes and a theme park in Perth’s southern suburbs has calmed enough for residents to return home.

At least 80 firefighters and multiple aircraft were earlier battling the blaze in parts of Bibra Lake and surrounds in the City of Cockburn.

The fire was also close to Adventure World and the Cockburn Ice Arena.

“There is a possible threat to lives and homes as a fire is burning in the area and the conditions are changing,” the Department of Fire and Emergency Services warned last night.

But by early this morning the fire was at an advice level, downgraded from the earlier emergency level.

No homes were lost but residents were warned to remain aware of the fire, which was not moving.

“The work that the crews did this afternoon directly saved the houses that were there,” Ray Buchan from DFES said.

The blaze remained uncontained and firefighters were working to bring it under control overnight.

The cause of the fire is unknown, and the arson squad is investigating.
