Shots Fired by Adult During Kids’ Altercation After High School Basketball Game

An Alabama woman has been charged with attempted murder after she allegedly fired shots outside the school after a basketball game at Hueytown High School.

Eunethia Arnette Shackleford, 30, was also charged with possession of a deadly weapon on school ground, AL.com reported.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said the shots were fired in the parking lot around 9:30 p.m. Friday night after the conclusion of a game between Hueytown and Leeds High School. A group of juveniles got into some kind of altercation, deputies said, and adult family members arrived on scene and intervened.

Shackleford is the mother of one of the juveniles involved in the dispute, they said. She is reported to have fired shots into the air and then fled the scene with some of the juveniles.

No one was hurt.

Deputies and Hueytown Police officers responded and dispersed the people gathered outside the school.

“Our children and fans have the right to go to a sporting event, experience it, and leave without the fear of violence. This type of behavior, especially by an adult who is supposed to set an example, is completely irresponsible,” Jefferson County Schools Superintendent Walter B. Gonsoulin Jr. said in the statement. “It shows a total lack of respect for human life and will not be tolerated.”

Shackleford was released after posting a $67,500 bond, jail records show.
