Aryan Strauss, from the US, warned others to 'never eat in a group without discussing the budget first' after she was expected to pay for a $227 group dinner. 'I have no money, I'm a single mum,' she said

A single mum-of-two was left to cough up the $227 bill at a group dinner and was deemed to be the ‘bad guy’ when she refused.

Aryan Strauss, from the US, warned others to ‘never eat in a group without discussing the budget first’.

After attending her model friend’s birthday at a Brazilian steakhouse she was left with the huge bill while her share was a mere $35.

She didn’t know any of the other attendees and her friend quickly became ‘irritated’ when she refused to pay for everyone.

‘I have no money, I’m a single mum,’ she stressed in a TikTok video.

Detailing the situation online, Aryan said she had found a ‘buy one get one free’ birthday coupon and was intending to pay for herself and her friend.

But during the evening Aryan noticed some people left halfway through and assumed they paid their share – though this wasn’t the case.

She also didn’t have any alcoholic beverages and didn’t order any dessert.

‘They wanted me to pay $150 ($228 AUD) when I just got the basic $50 ($76 AUD) meal,’ she said.

With the coupon she only would’ve paid $25 / $35 AUD.

‘But because those people left and didn’t pay for their meal suddenly I’m supposed to float this bill? No ma’am,’ she continued.

Aryan claimed she had to write a check to her friend because she didn’t have $50 in her account.

Aryan told her friend she didn't eat all the food and money wasn't discussed prior, she shouldn't have to pay for everyone. 'Why would you do this to me if you're supposed to be my friend? I wish I had said that back then,' she added (stock image)

‘I said I’m not paying any more than $50 because that’s not fair. She was irritated with me,’ she added.

‘Why would you do this to me if you’re supposed to be my friend? I wish I had said that back then.

‘I was the bad guy in this situation.

‘Never sit down to dinner with anybody, friend or otherwise, unless you’ve already talked about how it’s getting split, and what your budget is if you’re all going to split the bill evenly.’

The video has since amassed more than 2.1million views and hundreds shared their thoughts on the topic.

‘Separate checks always. Save yourself the hassle,’ one wrote, another said: ‘I am not discussing nothing. I am paying for what I ate.’

‘Sounds to me like she wasn’t much of a friend,’ a third added.

Someone else said: ‘Damn, I guess I’ve got a solid group of friends. We always assume we are paying for our own meals unless someone says otherwise.’
