Shepparton, Victoria fire: Family of woman set ablaze over a scooter break their silence over horrific scenes

A 20-year-old woman is ‘unrecognisable’ after she was allegedly set on fire by an acquaintance after an argument over a motorised scooter.

Paris Carpio-Woodley was airlifted to a Melbourne hospital after she was set alight outside a home in South Shepparton, north of the city, about 6.30pm on Monday.

Daily Mail Australia understands Victoria Police will allege accelerant was thrown on Ms Carpio-Woodley before her alleged attacker, 33-year-old mother Jordan Spencer, then lit the flame.

Neighbours earlier told reporters that Ms Carpio-Woodley’s ‘entire head’ was ablaze and a garden hose had to be used to douse the flames.

‘(Paris) is unrecognisable,’ a source close to the family told Daily Mail Australia.

‘Her siblings are having nightmares – it’s not fair.

‘We don’t understand how anyone could (allegedly) do this to such a beautiful young lady’.

Ms Carpio-Woodley remained in an induced coma in the intensive care unit at the Alfred Hospital on Thursday morning, where she is in a critical condition.

The woman suspected of attacking her, Spencer, is also fighting for life, and is under police guard. No charges have been laid.

A neighbour earlier told the Herald Sun that Ms Carpio-Woodley’s head was the ‘only part of the body that was (on fire).’

Another neighbour who was staying at a friend’s house nearby said he rushed over to see what the commotion was after hearing sirens.

He said he saw someone ‘lying on the ground’ and that emergency services were putting the fire out with a ‘garden hose’ before firefighters arrived at the scene.

An Alfred Hospital spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia that both women remain critical.

Ms Carpio-Woodley’s family are ‘devastated’ by the incident, according to her former teacher and manager of the Academy of Sport Health and Education in Melbourne, Heidi Knowles.

‘Everyone who loves Paris is taking one day at a time,’ Ms Knowles told Daily Mail Australia.

She described Ms Carpio-Woodley as having been a ‘respectful and very much loved student with a heart of gold’.

‘Paris would be the first student to put there hands up to assist in any school or community activities,’ Ms Knowles said.

‘You would know when she was in the room because she was always laughing and happy and brought a positive feel every where she was.

‘She sees the good in everyone she encounters and always gave 110 per cent.’

Detectives from the Arson and Explosives Squad have been dispatched to the scene to determine what caused the fire.

No charges have been laid.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or with information has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.

Paris Carpio-Woodley’s family has established a GoFundMe to ‘help our beautiful Paris with her recovery journey’.
