A child remains in hospital in a critical condition after being attacked by a crocodile in Kakadu National Park in the Northern Territory.

The CareFlight NT rescue helicopter transported the patient to the Jabiru Community Health Centre around 9pm on Saturday.

He was later airlifted to Darwin Hospital in a critical but stable condition.

A spokesman from St John Ambulance NT said the service did not receive a triple zero call for the incident but assisted in the transfer of a nine-year-old boy.

Crocodiles should be respected - and appreciated from a very safe distance,' he says.
