A missing boy has been found dead in a backyard pool in New South Wales‘ Greater Hunter region.

The six-year-old was reported missing from a street in Teralba, in Lake Macquarie, about 3.15pm yesterday.

Police arrived on scene and began a search of the surrounding area and found the boy unresponsive in the pool of a nearby property.

Officers commenced CPR until paramedics arrived but, despite their best efforts, the boy could not be saved.

While the child has yet to be formally identified, police believe he is the missing six-year-old.

“Officers attached to Lake Macquarie Police District established a crime scene and have commenced inquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident,” police said.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
