Steve Burton, who played Navy SEAL Harris Michaels on Days of Our Lives, is leaving the role after just one year.

The 53-year-old made the announcement himself, in a video uploaded to the Daily Drama’s YouTube page.

“Wow! Well, I just shot my final scenes here on ‘Days of Our Lives,’ and I just want to say, thank you so much to the cast, to the crew. It’s been amazing,” he shared as he walked down the studio halls.

“I can’t believe it’s been a year already! So, thank you so much to the fans.

“I’m always so full of gratitude. So thank you.”

Although he didn’t go into specifics as to why he left the show, Steve ended the video by teasing a new direction.

“Stay tuned,” Steve said, pointing to the camera.

Fans online hope that means he could be coming back to his old stomping grounds, on sister soap General Hospital.

“Does this mean that you might be coming back to GH??” one person begged to know. “The show definitely needs you and I think they know that!”

A second echoed: “Come back to GH. We miss you a lot.”

While a third begged: “Please come back to GH, I stopped watching it the day you left.”

FAN FAVORITE

Steve played Jason Morgan on General Hospital, and quickly became a fan favorite after making his debut in 1991.

However, his character was ultimately killed off in November 2021.

The decision to kill his character came after Steve Burton announced he was fired over the show’s Covid-19 vaccine mandates.

Alongside an Instagram video explaining why he’d been fired, Burton wrote “Hey! I wanted you to hear it from me. I love and appreciate all of you!”

“I wanted you to hear it from me personally.” he said in the video.

“Unfortunately, General Hospital has let me go because of the vaccine mandate. I did apply for my medical and religious exemptions, and both of those were denied. Which, you know, hurts. But this is also about personal freedom to me.”

The vaccine mandate for Zone A at General Hospital went into effect on November 1, 2021. Zone A includes those present on set when the actors aren’t wearing masks, and the actors themselves.

Steve reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 in August of that year.

He is also known for his role as Dylan McAvoy on The Young and the Restless.

MESSY DIVORCE

Less than a year later, Steve would suffer another setback when filed for divorce from his wife, following a wild cheating scandal.

He had been married to Sheree Gustin since January of 1999, and the two share three children.

Sheree was pregnant again at the time of their split, but Steve slammed that it wasn’t his baby.

“I wanted to clear something up,” he began in another Instagram message, “Sheree and I are separated.

“She recently announced that she’s expecting her fourth child. The child is not mine.”

“We are still co-parenting our three beautiful kids.”

“We would appreciate privacy at this time. Much luv, Steve.”
