A 57-year-old woman rescued from a house fire on the Mornington Pensinsula was among dozens of Victorians injured over the state’s New Year’s celebrations.
While some of the incidents resulted in serious injuries, on the whole Police said they were pleased with the behaviour of the public.
In the early hours of 2024, detectives opened an investigation into a house fire on the Mornington Peninsula.
A fire broke out in a house on Alma street in Tootgarook just after midnight, and a 57 year old woman was rescued from the blaze.
She suffered minor injuries.

Victoria Police Assistant Commissioner Mick Grainger said it would be alleged that the woman’s neighbours “let go of flares, and in an effort to recover those flares and look after her property, she was injured,” he said.
Grainger also said in a fire in Mill Park in Melbourne’s north injured 15 people and hospitalised several with “really serious injuries”.
According to The Age, one man was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries, while 10 others were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Four others were assessed at the scene.
An early count released by Victoria Police indicated that 33 people were arrested across the state during the New Year’s Eve blitz.
