An Idaho man accused of killing his 10-month-old son has been found competent to stand trial on murder charges.

According to court documents obtained by the Post-Register, the decision was made after a report on murder suspect Jeremy Best was submitted to the 7th Judicial District in Teton County. Earlier this month, a magistrate judge ordered the defendant to undergo a detailed mental competency evaluation to determine if he could stand trial.

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Idaho State Police issued an AMBER Alert for Best’s son, Zeke Best, after deputies found his pregnant wife, Kali Jean Randall, dead inside their Victor home on November 30.

Investigators said Best killed Randall and kidnapped their son.

On December 2, hunters found Best, naked and in a sleeping bag, alongside the road near Idaho Falls in Bonneville County, according to the Bonneville County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s office said Best was “making odd statements.”

He was taken into custody after medics cleared him.

Best was reportedly spotted earlier that day walking naked in a Dollar General store in Swan Valley.

Autopsy reports indicated that Zeke died from a neck wound caused by a knife, while his mother was fatally shot.

Best is now facing three counts of first-degree murder, and three enhancement charges of “use of a firearm or other deadly weapon during the commission of a crime,” according to East Idaho News. If convicted, he could face the death penalty.

His next court appearance is scheduled for January 3 at the Teton County court.
