A massive storm is hammering south-east Queensland – delaying several flights out of Brisbane during the busiest time of year.

Gold Coast residents have reported losing TV and radio broadcast signals and a car was reportedly struck by a lightning bolt in the city’s north.

Golf-ball sized hail has also been reported in Tara, some 300km west of Brisbane.

The Bureau of Meteorology warned ‘several waves of thunderstorms’ would cause havoc near Brisbane on Saturday.

The poor conditions have already delayed some flights out of Brisbane Airport.

One traveller posted a bleak image of the storm, writing: ‘No flights in or out for now. It’s wild again.’
