A teenager has wrangled with an alleged burglar, holding him down before police arrived in Melbourne.

A woman was awoken by a noise at 4.40am to find a man in her bedroom, inside her High Street apartment in Preston.

Her 19-year-old son ran into her bedroom after hearing her scream.

He managed to wrangle the 31-year-old man, dragging him to the front of the apartment complex and holding him there until police arrived.

The 31-year-old man from Thornbury was arrested and has been charged with several offences, including aggravated burglary, theft, five counts of handling stolen goods, theft from motor vehicle, and negligently dealing with the proceeds of crime.

He will appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court today.
