DJ Ace shocked fans when he announced that he was leaving the station after 21 years.

Why is DJ Ace leaving BBC Radio 1Xtra?

DJ Ace is known for hosting his flagship show on BBC Radio 1Xtra.

However, in December 2023. it was announced he was leaving the job, as it was “time to move on”.

The much-loved presenter left fans shocked when he made a statement saying he had quit his show.

In a statement he said: “After two decades, various daytime slots and over 10,000 hours on air I’ve decided it’s time to move on.

“I’ve loved my time at 1Xtra and have so many proud moments to reflect on. I’m very thankful for all the opportunities I have had.”

DJ Ace also broke the news on Instagram and said: “It’s time to share the news that I have taken the decision to leave BBC Radio 1xtra, in preparation for my new chapter in 2024.

“As someone that helped launch the station in 2002 I am so incredibly proud of everything we have achieved as a network, and i’m so grateful to have been involved since Day 1.

“To the incredible 1xtra listeners, some of you have literally listened to me grow from a wild yout to a grown man over 2 decades. It’s because of you that I have been able to have this amazing experience for so long.

“Words can’t express how grateful I am for the memories, the opportunities and the colleagues that became family.

“Even though i’m ending this 1Xtra chapter, I hope I can carry your support through to this next phase.

“Thank you, from the bottom of my heart for being with me on this journey.”

Who is replacing DJ Ace?

Chuckie has been named as the brand-new host of 1Xtra’s flagship R&B Show.

The first show will broadcasting on Saturday, February 24, 2024.

It was also announced that DJ Ace has decided to leave the station after 21 years.

London born Chuckie is an established podcast host and DJ specialising in R&B.

He started his DJing career at the age of 12 and has since performed at venues across the world.

Chuckie started his broadcasting career launching an award-winning podcast (HCPod) and YouTube series (The Cheque Up), where he has interviewed huge guests including Ed Sheeran, Maya Jama, Kranium and Stormzy.

Chuckie said in a statement: “This is a very surreal and sensational moment for me.

“I’m very grateful to be a part of the 1Xtra team and I’m looking forward to creating some high quality musical moments with the listeners.”

Ace’s last R&B show will be on Saturday, January 20, 2024.

In the interim until Chuckie takes over, No Guidnce will host the show for four weeks from Saturday, January 27, 2024.

British boyband, No Guidnce, have been making waves in the music industry with their soulful harmonies reminiscent of old school R&B.

They have caught the attention of artists like Anderson .Paak, Labrinth, and more and have most recently been nominated for Best Newcomer Award at the 2024 MOBO awards and named as one of 1Xtra’s Hot For 2024 acts.

Faron McKenzie, Head of BBC Radio 1Xtra, said: “I’m really excited to welcome Chuckie to station, he has an incredible passion and love for R&B as well as huge amounts of knowledge on the genre. I can’t wait to see what he does with the show.

“Ace has been a hugely important part of 1Xtra and has given everything to the station for the past 21 years.

“He’s helped to define 1Xtra and its audience and has been an incredible radio talent.

“I’d like to thank him for everything that he’s done and wish him the very best for the future.”

When did DJ Ace join Radio 1Xtra?

Ace joined 1Xtra in 2002 and has since hosted a number of shows across the network from Weekend Breakfast to the coveted 1Xtra Live Lounge show.

He was an integral part of the station over the years.

DJ Ace hosted some of the most iconic moments and interviewing global superstars such as Alicia Keys, Usher, Lizzo and John Legend.
