A man has died after being pulled unconscious from the water at a popular Perth beach.

The man was rushed from Cottesloe beach to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital but died on the way.

The man was seen floating in the water by another beachgoer.

Surf life savers were alerted and launched a rescue.

Witnesses say CPR was performed for more than 20 minutes on the busy beach but the man never regained consciousness.

Uvin Kojada said other beachgoers helped try and save the man.

“They carried him out using a surf board and they were just around that area giving him CPR, surf guards and a few other members of the public with a medical background,” he said.

It’s understood the man was aged between 60 and 70 and was swimming alone.
