A Georgia man who threw a pot of hot frying oil on an employee of the fried chicken fast food chain Popeyes will do hard time for the attack.
Jordan Alexander Duncan, 25, was sentenced Thursday to three years in prison after admitting he launched the hot grease at Kelvin Early, a Popeyes worker, in 2021. According The Telegraph, a Macon newspaper, Early was working at the Mercer University Drive location of the chicken fast-food chain in November of that year when Duncan walked in to the store.

The Telegraph, citing prosecutors, reported that Duncan was at the restaurant to pick up his last paycheck from when he worked there. He reportedly grabbed a pot, stuck it into the fryer and threw the grease onto Early, who suffered second- and third-degree burns as a result. It was unclear why Duncan threw the oil at Early, but according to The Telegraph, Duncan’s lawyer, his mother, and even Duncan himself testified that he had some mental health issues and substance abuse problems.

Duncan reportedly told Judge David L. Mincey III that he knew he needed to change and he was “committed to getting there.” Both he and his mother asked that he be sentenced to a rehabilitation program in addition to prison time, The Telegraph reported.
Early did not appear for Duncan’s sentencing, which also included an order for Duncan to stay away from both Early and the Popeyes restaurant, The Telegraph reported.
Popeyes did not immediately return Law&Crime’s request for comment on the sentencing.
