Asa Ellerup and Rex Heuermann

The wife of accused Gilgo Beach murder suspect, Rex Heueremann, appeared at his court hearing Wednesday morning, reportedly surrounded by

According to Fox News Digital, Asa Ellerup stood without emotion at the Arthur M. Cromarty Courthouse in Riverhead as Heuermann appeared before a judge, sporting a new black suit during the brief conference hearing.

The hearing included discovery matters between the defense and prosecution. Afterward, Heuermann’s lawyer, Michael Brown, spoke to reporters outside of the courtroom and discussed Ellerup’s state of mind.

“Listen, they were married for so many years, and they raised a family together. And my understanding is, is that she doesn’t believe that he was capable or committed these acts,” Brown said.

Police arrested Heuermann in July for the deaths of three of the four women known collectively as the “Gilgo Four.” The bodies were found within days of each other on Gilgo Beach in December 2010. All four women were buried in burlap sacks.

Heuermann is now charged with six counts of murder in the deaths of Melissa Barthelemy, 24; Megan Waterman, 22; and Amber Lynn Costello, 27; and is the prime suspect in the death of 25-year-old Maureen Brainard-Barnes.

Last week, Ellerup’s lawyer, Bob Macedonio, told DailyMail that Ellerup “wants to see and hear the evidence” during court proceedings.

“The only thing she knows about this case is what’s been reported in the media,” Macedonio said. “If this happened, he was living a complete double life.”

As CrimeOnline previously reported, Ellerup made her first visit to see Heuermann at the Riverhead Correctional Facility earlier this month. Macedonio said she hadn’t seen him in person since the day before his arrest and their two adult children did not accompany her.

“She is doing fine. She is holding up well. She had a visit with Rex on Wednesday afternoon and spent about an hour with him,” Macedonio told DailyMail. “I did not get into discussion what the content of the conversation was.”

“It is the same as every other visitor she has to go through the same routine, one hour visit, there is no special treatment for Rex as another prisoner…She made her reservation for the visitation just like everyone else does through the sheriff’s office policy at the Riverhead Correctional Facility.”

Heuermann pleaded not guilty at his arraignment. He remains behind bars without bail.
