Ed Sheeran confirms he’ll be buried in controversial crypt built at his £3.7m Suffolk estate

ED Sheeran has confirmed he’ll be buried in the controversial crypt he built at his Suffolk home.

The British singer started work on his final resting place last year after getting the all-clear from the council.

Speaking about the build for the first time, Ed explained he had built the structure as a chapel to have as a place to mourn the people he has lost.

However he later decided to be buried there himself so his children could use it as a place to remember him.

Speaking to GQ Hype, Ed, 32, said: “I wouldn’t say it’s a crypt.

“It’s a hole that’s dug in the ground with a bit of stone over it, so whenever the day comes and I pass away, I get to go in there.

“People think it’s really weird and really morbid, but I’ve had friends die without wills, and no one knows what to do.”

Ed submitted plans to build the 9ft by 6ft chamber at the start of last year.

The crypt is underneath a chapel which he built on the grounds of his 16 acre, £3.7million estate, nicknamed Sheeranville by locals.

Ed’s plans came under fire from his neighbours, with one objecting to the burial chamber.

Local Anna Woods said: “The area is well served by local churches and I feel there is no need for a well-known person to create his own island of calm when lovely places of worship abound in the area.

“I also note there will be a burial chamber in the building.

“Are celebrities now so detached from reality that their every living breath, and now even the act of dying, be apart from the rest of us?”

Ed has also built a pub and a recording studio on the land where he shares a home with his wife Cherry Seaborn, 31, and their daughters, Lyra and Jupiter.
