CJ Stroud may be in his first year in the NFL, but he already has a chip on his shoulder.
Stroud was the first overall pick for the Texans in this year’s draft and he already took it personally that the team had not won a home game since 2021, and reveled in sending the Steelers fans who packed NRG Stadium unhappy in a 30-6 wire-to-wire mollywhopping.
“That ain’t flying for me,” Stroud told reporters after the game, speaking about the lengthy home winless streak that the team had just snapped.
“Anybody in this building, I want them to know that we’re fighting our tails off every day to make sure y’all are walking around with Texans gear pride. Y’all walk around with that swag that we walk around with when we get it done.
“For me, I take that real personal, because I don’t like being bagged on for my teams. When my Lakers lose, I be pissed. So, I take that stuff real serious man and it’s up to us to work every day and put the work in.”
Stroud is the betting favorite for Offensive Rookie of the Year, at about +200 at most books.
He noticed that there were a lot of Steelers fans in attendance at in Houston on Sunday and wasn’t exactly sorry for their loss.
“Like you see, Steelers fans came and they showed up in our stadium, and we sent them home,” Stroud said.
“I think our fans felt the energy, like we ain’t playing today. Right from the get-go, so I just want to say we’re gonna keep fighting every day so y’all can walk around with that swag.”
