Sharing an on-air snap on X, formally known as Twitter, he explained that after a year of uncertainty, he’d had enough.

“I heard a year ago that changes would affect my BBC shows. Since, final dates have been moved and been changed with little notice,” he fumed.

“Still with no certainty about final dates, I am taking control. I will present my last show on 8th Oct I will still be on Caroline Be Happy Ray x”

He will remain as a presenter on Radio Caroline, which was originally an “offshore pirate radio station”.

Richard Curtis made a film about the floating studio – The Boat That Rocked, starring Bill Nighy, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Rhys Ifans and Kenneth Branagh.

He was quizzed by fans over his departure, so decided to clear a few things up in another tweet.

“Just to clarify, no, of course I don’t want to give up a successful & popular regional #BBC show, but to be told ‘you finish in January, no March, no June, no perhaps October’ is cruel & unfair.

“So, I’ve decided I’ll finish 8th October Thank you for listening. See you on Caroline.”

According to the BBC, local stations across the South and East of England launched changes to their schedules from Monday 4 September.

Referencing the number of people who had viewed his tweet, he wrote: “28,000 people seem to be interested, not in me, but in the situation surrounding future plans for BBC Local Radio – what does that say about the plans?”

This comes as BBC presenter Sophie Little made a furious on-air rant during her final ever show – which was silenced by bosses.

On her programme the former Radio One host slammed bosses at the publicly funded corporation for streamlining local radio services.

However, it appears the segment was cut from the programme and purposly omitted from the catch-up service on the BBC Sounds app.

In anger, she took matters into her own hands as she posted the audio of her monologue online onto X – formerly known as Twitter.

In her post she added: “The BBC have decided to cut out something I said on my final radio show today.”

In her wireless rant, she fumed: “Something that has always bothered me is when an individual has any kind of platform and they don’t use it to speak up for others at a time when they should.

“Local radio is a vital public service.

“And it is my opinion that these drastic, sweeping cuts that are taking place to BBC local radio stations all across the country are not only detrimental to anyone that enjoys switching on their local station and hearing their favourite shows, and detrimental to the local communities who value it and use it.

“Actually these cuts are unbelievably unfair to those who need local public service broadcasting the most.”

The radio personality even admitted that she cried as she spoke with her fans in her local area.

She exclaimed: “And if you think that sounds dramatic then I wish you could be privy to some of the conversations I’ve had with listeners in recent weeks that have reduced me to tears.
