Flash flooding possible in parts of Chicago area

CHICAGO (WLS) — Some heavy rain moved through the Chicago area Sunday morning, prompting Flash Flood Warnings.

The National Weather Service issued a warning for northern Cook and DuPage counties that lasted until noon.

A Flash Flood Warning was also issued for southern Cook County and Lake County Indiana until 3 p.m.

Major flooding with a high likeliness for damage was specifically reported for the south suburbs, including Calumet City and Dolton, and northwest Indiana.

ABC7 Meteorologist Jaisol Martinez said the showers are expected to be off and on until the entire area dries out between 2 to 4 p.m. Scattered lightning is expected to be seen with the showers as well.

A Marine Warning was also issued for the area between Wilmette Harbor and Winthrop Harbor, NWS said. Conditions for waterspouts to form in Lake Michigan are possible.
