Dashcam footage of a truck veering onto the wrong side of the road and almost taking out a car on a Victorian highway has been shared as police search for the truck driver.

The driver allegedly did not stop after he forced the driver of the car to swerve off Hopkins Highway in Warrnambool to avoid a collision on Wednesday about 9.15am.

Footage released by police shows the truck’s trailer fishtail on a sharp bend in the road, with the trailer veering into the path of an oncoming car near the intersection of Spring Flat Road.

“The other driver, a 36-year-old man, was forced to take evasive action and drove into a ditch to avoid being hit,” a police spokesperson said.

Fortunately, the local man and his five-year-old Labradoodle were not injured.

The truck driver continued on and did not check on the man.

Police are hoping someone may recognise the truck involved and contact police.

Anyone who witnessed the near incident, has dashcam footage or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
