Teen Convicted of Crashing Vehicle to Kill Boyfriend Allegedly Posted Comments on Obituary

An Ohio teenager convicted of murdering her boyfriend and another man by deliberately crashing her vehicle into a building allegedly posted tributes to the victims following the wreck, according to the New York Post.

Mackenzie Shirilla, 19, was found guilty Monday of murder, aggravated vehicular homicide and multiple other charges in connection with the deaths of 20-year-old Dominic Russo and 19-year-old Davion Flanagan.

Prosecutors alleged that Shirilla drove the vehicle into a brick building intentionally in July 2022 to kill Russo as a way of ending what prosecutors described as a chaotic relationship.

In new reporting, the Post found that someone using the same name as Shirilla posted comments on Russo’s online obituary.

On August 8, 2022, the day Russo was buried, someone using Shirilla’s name commented: “I love you my nug. I will never stop thinking about you,” according to the Post.

Weeks later, on August 24, 2022, the same user wrote: “I miss you nug. I still feel like your just going to walk in the door any second. I miss your laugh your perfect smile. I feel your energy around me everyday i just wish it was physical,” according to the Daily Beast.

It continued: “God u are the last person to deserve this you had such a perfect life ahead of you… i wish i told you all this more. Please wait for me.”

Shirilla has denied the allegation that the crash was intentional, and her attorney, James McDonnell, argued in court that prosecutors failed to substantiate the claim and could not prove that she did not lose control of the vehicle, according to Fox 8.

At the time of the crash, Shirilla was allegedly high after smoking marijuana and had levels of THC beyond the state’s legal limit.

The teen faces an automatic life sentence in prison but will be eligible for parole in 15 years, according to Cleveland.com. She is scheduled to be sentenced Monday.
