Rob Gronkowski keeps leaving the window to an NFL return a millimeter open.
Gronk appeared on FanDuel TV’s “Up & Adams” on Wednesday and naturally, the topic came up as to whether the 34-year-old retired tight end could possibly play football again.
“Brian Daboll wants me on his roster, I know it,” Gronkowski said.
Kay Adams nudged him to say how far the window toward a potential return is.
“I love to pretend that I could still play,” Gronkowski said, having fun with the bit.
“Just makes me feel good.”
Adams assured him that he could still play, but he said, “No I can’t, I’m washed up. I just like to pretend.”
Adams asked which coach would be the one who could get him to return to the gridiron.

“Brian Daboll,” Gronk said of the vivacious Giants head coach, before catching himself from starting a speculation cycle.
“He can’t get me out of retirement, but he would have the best chance to.”
This would mean that he would be paired with Darren Waller.
“I always believe that having two tight ends makes the defense have the most difficult times,” Gronk said.
Gronkowski referenced teaming up with Aaron Hernandez, his former teammate on the Patriots who died by suicide in prison after being convicted of murder, but appeared deliberate not to mention him by name.
“Two tight ends can make an offense unstoppable. It’s rare. If you go back to the days where I had another tight end with me, it just makes the offense prolific and unstoppable — it gives you so many more options in the run game, and the pass game and play-action.”
Gronkowski first retired after the 2018 season, before reuniting with Tom Brady for two seasons in Tampa Bay in 2020 and 2021, and then retiring again.
He was a four-time Super Bowl champion and four-time All-Pro.
