Woman Detained in Ukraine for Allegedly Aiding Russia’s Plot Against President Zelenskyy

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has made a significant arrest, detaining a woman suspected of assisting Russia in planning an attack on President Volodymyr Zelenskyy during his visit to a flood-hit region. The SBU believes that the woman was gathering intelligence to find out President Zelenskyy’s itinerary ahead of his trip to Mykolaiv in southern Ukraine.

The SBU revealed a blurred image of the woman being apprehended by masked officers in a kitchen, along with phone messages and handwritten notes related to military activity. Ukraine has often accused individuals who support Russia of sharing information to aid Russia’s military actions.

In response to the ongoing “fight against traitors,” President Zelenskyy was updated by the head of the SBU on the matter. He had visited Mykolaiv in June after the area was affected by flooding due to a dam breach, and again in July following shelling incidents.

Thankfully, Ukraine was already aware of the plot and took extra security precautions during Zelenskyy’s visit. The SBU alleges that the detained woman was involved in assisting Russia’s preparation for a “massive air strike on the Mykolaiv region.” Her alleged tasks included seeking information about the location of electronic warfare systems and ammunition warehouses.

SBU officers continued to monitor the suspect to gather more information about her Russian handlers and assignments. Eventually, they caught her “red-handed” while she was attempting to pass intelligence data to Russian secret services.

The woman resided in the small town of Ochakiv in Mykolaiv and had previously worked at a military base store. Her alleged activities involved photographing locations and attempting to gather information from personal contacts in the area. She could face charges of unauthorized dissemination of information about weapons and troop movements, which may result in up to 12 years of imprisonment if convicted.

Earlier, in May, the Kremlin accused Ukraine of trying to carry out a drone attack on President Vladimir Putin’s residence, signaling tensions between the two nations. However, Ukrainian officials denied any involvement in such an attack on the Russian President.
