The Wealth of Countess Vaughn
How rich is Countess Vaughn? As of late-2018, sources inform us of a net worth that is close to $1 million, earned through a successful career in acting. She’s also done reality television projects in recent years, and as she continues her career, it is expected that her wealth will also continue to increase.
Early Life and Career Beginnings
Countess started performing by singing at church at the age of three in 1981. Seven years later, she competed at the “Star Search” competition television show, singing “I’ll Be There” to win as the junior vocalist champion, and the overall junior champion. That exposure led to an acting career, beginning with the fourth season of the sitcom entitled “227”.
The show starred Marla Gibbs, and follows her daily endeavors along with her neighbors. Throughout the 1990s, Countess then made guest appearances in numerous shows, including “Roc”, “Thea”, and “Hangin’ with Mr. Cooper”. She also had various theatrical opportunities, including performing in the off-Broadway musical entitled “Mama”, then appeared in the production of “I Want to Sing! Part 3”. In 1992, she released her first album entitled “Countess”, which included R&B songs and dance music. She also did a cover of the James Brown song “It’s A Man’s, Man’s, Man’s World” as the lead single of her album, which charted in the Billboard top 100 R&B/Hip-Hop Songs Chart.
Breakthrough
After the release of her album which managed to sell 3,000 copies, Vaughn then had her breakthrough role in the sitcom “Moesha”, in which she was cast as Kimberly Ann Parker. She became one of the stars of the show which ran from 1996 to 1999, also starring Brandy Norwood as the titular character, a high school student with the show focusing on her life as well as her family. It became highly successful during its entire run with CBS and thanks to Vaughn’s performance, she was awarded an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.
She then reprised her role in the spin-off series entitled “The Parkers”, starring alongside comedian Mo’Nique in the show which ran from 1999 to 2004, and while working on the series, appeared in the film “Trippin”, a comedy film starring Deon Richmond, and had guest roles in other television shows too, such as “Let’s Stay Together” and “Cuts”.
Since the end of her run in “The Parkers”, Countess has mainly been seen as a regular in various reality television shows. She made an appearance during the third season of “Celebrity Fit Club”, which follows overweight celebrities as they try to lose weight for charity. The celebrities are divided into two teams and compete with each other to reach their target weights. She was actually the first member in the show to gain weight, saying that she was trying to lose weight at the wrong time – read on. She also appeared as a contestant in the show “Celebrity Rap Superstar” hosted by Kevin Hart, featuring eight rappers teaching eight celebrities to rap.
She was partnered with Warren G for the show, however, an illness lead her to be eliminated from the competition. One of her latest projects is the reality series “Hollywood Divas”, in which she appears alongside Paula Jai Parker, Lisa Wu and Golden Brooks. The show follows the lives of five African-American actresses trying to navigate their relationships and careers. During the first season of the show, she revealed that she had an abortion at the age of 18, and stated that it was because she had just started a television show and she knew that her career would end if she kept the baby.
Personal Life
For her personal life, it is known that Vaughn was married to Joseph James and they have a son together. Her marriage to James lasted from 2002 to 2005, and her breakup coincided during the time she was competing in “Celebrity Fit Club”.
During her television appearances, she also mentioned that she has a daughter. In an episode of “The Doctors” she revealed that she suffered from hair loss due to bad reactions from the glue used on wigs that she wore for her roles. She also has skin discoloration in many places.
