A young tradesman has died after being electrocuted while working in Perth’s north.

The 24-year-old was found dead in the roof space of a property in Nollamara, in the city’s North, about 11am yesterday.

Energy Safety Director Saj Aboolakhan said the state government and WorkSafe would be investigating the “tragic” death.

He said the man was only meant to be working a half day before knocking off, but never made it home.

“It’s a very tragic event,” he said.

“It’s really sad when someone goes to work you expect them to come.”

Family of the homeowners have told 9News the 24 year-old was working in the roof when they heard a loud bang and heard him yell.

Emergency services were on the scene within minutes.

“We are trying to establish what happened in this case because there is normally very limited reasons why the power should stay on when someone is working in the roof,” Aboolakhan said.

“The law requires anyone who is doing work in ceiling space, roof space of any domestic property to switch off the power.”
