Four-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Chris Jones is not reporting to Kansas City Chiefs training camp.
Jones, who made first-team All-Pro last season for the first time in his career after being second-team All-Pro in three of the previous four seasons, is seeking a new extension with the team.
The two sides reportedly aren’t close to making a possible deal, according to an ESPN report.
The near 300-pound defensive lineman, who was a second-round pick out of Mississippi State in the 2016 NFL Draft, is entering the last of a four-year, $80 million contract, including a $19.5 million base salary, according to Spotrac.
Jones, who did not report to mandatory minicamp with the Chiefs this past June, will be fined $50,000 every day he misses the team’s training camp, an element of the collective bargaining agreement between the NFL and the players’ association.

Jones is widely considered among the best defensive tackles in the NFL, whose been an anchor of the Chiefs 2019 and 2022 Super Bowl-winning seasons.
Jones tied a season-high 15.5 sacks last season and also forced two fumbles.

He recorded two sacks and five quarterback hits in the Chiefs’ AFC Championship win against the Cincinnati Bengals last season.
Pro Football Focus gave Jones a league-best 92.3 PFF grade last season, and has had him in the top 10 for six straight years.

The Chiefs began training camp on Sunday at Missouri Western State University, a Division II school within the state.
