A Perth man says he “should be dead” after he was sent flying from his bike and pinned against a parked car by an SUV.

Bruce Hopkins, 49, was out for a Sunday ride with his wife Leigh-Anne along Oceanside Promenade in Mullaloo when the collision happened.

The SUV was emerging from its driveway when it hit Bruce.

He was flung onto its roof and ended up pinned against another car.

“I remember being on the roof and then nothing,” Bruce told 9News.

“The next thing I remember, was lying on the floor looking up at the sky with two cars pushing into my hips.”

Leigh-Anne said she thought she had lost her husband.

“I honestly believe he was taking his last breaths because of the sound he was making, and his eyes were totally glazed,” she said.

“When I close my eyes or wake up in the morning, all I can see is him being hit and flying through the air, and I can’t get that image out of my head.”

Off-duty nurses rushed to Bruce’s rescue, ensuring he could keep breathing.

“They never leave the job, do they,” Bruce said.

"Wear your helmet and respect emergency services - they are fricking amazing," Bruce said.

Amazingly, Bruce has now been discharged from hospital with just a few scratches and bruises.

He believes his helmet saved his life.

“I hit that parked car with the back of my head – my shoulder took quite a beating,” he said.

The investigation is ongoing and no charges have been laid.

9News understands the elderly driver of the SUV accidentally accelerated, hitting Bruce at 40km/hr.

“She was just sobbing and she had her head in her hands,” Leigh-Anne said.

“I could see how traumatised she was.”

The couple say they forgive the driver, and Bruce has some advice for his fellow road users.

“Wear your helmet and respect emergency services – they are fricking amazing,” he said.
