Biography of Jai Hindley
Jai Hindley, born 5 May 1996, is a professional cyclist from Australia who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam Bora–Hansgrohe. He achieved significant achievements throughout his career.
Hindley began his professional cycling journey in 2018 when he joined the Sunweb team. He made his debut at the Volta ao Algarve and was later included in the starting list of the prestigious Vuelta a España that same year. In 2019, he took part in the Giro d’Italia.
2020 proved to be an exceptional season for Hindley. He won two stages to secure the Herald Sun Tour overall classification title. Later in the year, during the Giro d’Italia, he showcased his talent by finishing third on Stage 15 and eventually winning Stage 18, which was considered the challenging “Queen stage”.
These performances put him in second place overall and also gave him the lead in the young rider classification. In a thrilling battle for first place, Hindley finished the Giro in second place after a tightly contested time trial.
Unfortunately, Hindley had to withdraw from the 2021 Giro d’Italia before the start of stage 14, as he was far down the overall classification. However, he bounced back the following season by joining the Bora-Hansgrohe team for the 2022 season. He was early in the top five at the Tirreno–Adriatico race.
A few months later, he secured his first Grand Tour victory by winning the Giro d’Italia. Throughout the race, Hindley showed remarkable strength and won stage 9, a challenging alpine stage. He held onto second place for most of the third week and outscored all other competitors in the penultimate mountain stage to secure a comfortable lead going into the final individual time trial.
Riding the coveted Maglia Rosa (pink jersey), he seized the opportunity to secure victory, becoming the first Australian cyclist to win the Giro d’Italia and the second Australian to win a Grand Tour after Cadel Evans’ triumph at the Tour de. France.

On 1 July 2023, Hindley added another success to his career by winning Stage 5 of the Tour de France, securing the yellow jersey and taking the lead in the overall classification as the race continued into Stage 6.
