Shoppers at a number of the supermarket giant’s outlets across the city, including at Neutral Bay, noticed a number of empty shelves on Saturday.
In a statement, Woolworths said the shortages were due to Tuesday’s workplace accident that claimed the life of a 37-year-old supply chain team member.
“There has been an impact on supply for some products, including fruit and vegetables, in some of our Sydney stores,” a Woolworths spokesperson said.
“This is due to the tragic accident that took place at one of our distribution centres earlier this week.
“Our teams are working to return stock to normal levels over the weekend, however there may be slight delays in restocking some products until next week.

“We thank our customers for their understanding at this time.”
The 37-year-old was one of three people injured when pallets collapsed at a factory on Sargents Road in Minchinbury on Tuesday afternoon.
The other two were hospitalised in serious but stable conditions.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with our team member’s friends and family at this difficult time,” a spokesperson for Primary Connect, part of Woolworths Group’s supply chain, said at the time.
