A Georgia woman has been charged with murdering her 7-year-old daughter whose decomposing remains were reportedly discovered in a vacant apartment on Sunday.
Alivia Hobbs-Jordan’s mummified remains were found at in DeKalb County after a neighbor reported smelling a foul odor from the unit. The resident inspected the unit and found the deceased girl in a closet, according to WAGA.
Though police have not revealed the girl’s cause of death, officials announced on Friday that her mother, Alondra Hobbs, has been charged with murder.
Investigators said they believed Hobbs-Jordan died a significant amount of time before her body was found. Prior reports indicated that graphic video showed a body in the closet with a purse on top of it and surrounded by debris.
Prior to the identification of the body, investigators estimated the deceased girl was between the ages of 2 and 4. An officer wrote that the body had a full head of hair, though her arm and leg were decaying.
Meanwhile, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported that the last tenant moved out of the unit in question months before Hobbs-Jordan was discovered there. However, other residents stated that squatters had lived there at some point.

Hobbs is charged with felony murder and second-degree cruelty. WAGA reported that the will be placed into custody once she is released from the hospital. It is not immediately known why she is being hospitalized.
