“Let me say that Mr Drummond has done an excellent job as the head of the department Mr Drummond has informed me that it’s his intention to step down from his position,” Palaszczuk said.

Drummond is facing fierce criticism for a submission he made to a public disclosure laws inquiry.

It said: “Consideration could be given to … penalties for inappropriately disclosing relevant information to journalists.”

Many interpreted this as a threat to whistleblowers who speak up and highlight issues in the state’s health system.
