Respondents in the survey were asked to identify the three types of holidays that most appealed to them.

Unsurprisingly, beach holidays topped the list – chosen by more than three-quarters (76 per cent) of respondents.

This was followed by cities (picked by 59 per cent).

Cruises ranked highly, attracting 34 per cent of respondents, as did adventure holidays (32 per cent), with 26 per cent flagging outback holidays.

Coming in at number 11 of the overall travel regions was Central America, home to countries Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama.
