A prisoner has been charged after allegedly assaulting corrective services officers and escaping from a Queensland hospital despite being handcuffed.

Barry Kenneth Bloomfield was arrested without incident at a unit in Rockhampton about 12.50pm on Monday, two days after allegedly fleeing the Central Queensland city’s hospital.

He was charged with two counts of serious assault corrective services officer and one count each of escape lawful custody and serious assault of public officer performing function.

Bloomfield is currently serving a two-and-a-half-year sentence for assault occasioning actual bodily harm and is due to face court on Tuesday on the new charge.

He is the second patient to disappear from Rockhampton Hospital in the past month.

In-patient Peter Roach, 80, walked out of the hospital late last month and has not been seen since.

Roach has a medical condition that can cause confusion, and has been described as non-verbal.
