Heavy fog has shut down Sydney‘s ferry services as the harbour city wakes to a thick fog blanket covering the skyline.

The majority of ferry services have been terminated both arriving and departing from Circular Quay since about 7am.

Sydney Ferries is urging passengers to “make alternative arrangements or allow plenty of extra travel time”.

It comes as Sydney recorded its first rainless fortnight in two years.

The city has been rain free since May 20 and will likely remain that way until Sunday.

”There were spatters of rain on Thursday in some suburbs but nothing that was heavy enough to register at the Observatory Hill weather station where official records for Sydney are kept,” Weatherzone said.

“That means it has now exceeded the 13-day streak from June 6 to 19, 2022.”

Weatherzone does not believe it will beat the next longest streak of 25 days from 2021 as there is plenty of wet weather expected in this coming week.

“Sydney’s longest rainless streak was 48 days from July 17, 1995 to September 3, 1995.”

Across the country, the capitals are looking fairly dry with tops of 22 in Sydney, 16 in Melbourne, 25 in Brisbane, 18 in Perth, 23 in Adelaide, 14 in Hobart, 19 in Canberra and 30 in Darwin expected.
