Foreign Affairs Minister Penny Wong has announced the death of her father and respected architect Francis Wong Yit Shing.
Wong posted a heartfelt message to her Facebook and Instagram paying tribute to her father on Tuesday night.
“This morning my beautiful father, Francis Wong Yit Shing, passed peacefully,” she said.
“In his final days, he was surrounded by his loving family.
“We will all miss him. We are grateful for his full life, for the strength of his love for us all, for the opportunities he gave us and for the values he instilled.

“We deeply appreciate the staff at The Alfred who have shown us such compassion.
“We are comforted by the many friends and colleagues who have reached out with heartfelt messages of support.”
Francis Wong studied at the University of Adelaide before becoming an architect.
When Penny Wong was appointed as a minister in 2007, her father told the press that he was “very happy” and said he hoped “her appointment will be a blessing for Australia”.
He was a proud father and grandfather.
