A female traffic controller is in critical condition after being hit by a car in Queensland.

The 39-year-old woman was struck by a Mazda on the Gold Coast Highway in Palm Beach at 2.45pm today.

She suffered serious injuries and remains in a critical condition at the Gold Coast University Hospital.

A 46-year-old driver was taken to Robina Hospital in shock.

The windscreen of the Mazda was shattered from the impact. 

Police are continuing the investigation and ask for anyone with CCTV footage to come forward.
