Steve Cooper Bio-Welsh Football Manager and Former Footballer Steve Cooper was born on 10 December 1979 in Pontypridd, Wales.

Cooper trained for his coaching certifications while still a player, then began coaching at Wrexham’s academy. Cooper obtained his UEFA Pro license at the age of 27, making him one of the youngest coaches to do so.

Cooper was a coach at Wrexham’s academy for a while before being appointed head of youth development. Cooper was hired by Liverpool as a youth coach on 3 September 2008 and began overseeing the under-12 team.

On 18 July 2011 he was appointed Headmaster of Liverpool Academy. Cooper led the Under-18s to the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup in 2012–13, where they lost to Chelsea.

Cooper was appointed manager of the England under-16 national team on 13 October 2014. The following year he took charge of the under-17 teams, working with the likes of Jadon Sancho, Phil Foden and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

Cooper guided his team to the final of the UEFA European U17 Championship, where they were beaten 4–1 on penalties by Spain after a 2–2 draw.

In October 2017, Cooper’s under-17 team defeated Brazil 3–1 in the semi-finals and Spain 5–2 in the championship match to win the 2017 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

Swansea City of the Championship hired Cooper as head coach on 13 June 2019 for a three-year term.

At the Liberty Stadium, his side beat Hull City with a 2-1 victory thanks to goals from Borja Bastón and Mike van der Hoorn.

Swansea’s flawless start to the season saw them top the table with 16 points from 18 games, earning Cooper the EFL’s Championship Manager of the Month award for August. Swansea have not started a season this well in 41 years.

Despite criticism of his style of play and Swansea’s poor form towards the end of the season, in his second season Cooper once again led Swansea to the play-offs.

With two league games remaining in the regular season, they drew 2-2 with Reading on 25 April 2021 to secure a place in the play-offs.

Cooper was in charge of his 100th game. Swansea finished fourth in the league but fell to Brentford in the play-off final. In July 2021, he left the club with everyone’s consent.

On 21 September 2021, Cooper signed a two-year contract to become the head coach of Nottingham Forest in the Championship. Nottingham Forest were currently in last place in the division.

Cooper influenced Forest to be more confident on the ball and start more attacks, which improved their style of play.

He also helped the mindset of the players by encouraging a stronger sense of community and a “big club mentality”. Following a 1–0 victory over Huddersfield Town in the Championship Play-Off Final at Wembley Stadium on 29 May 2022, Cooper led Nottingham Forest to promotion to the Premier League.

He extended his contract with the team until 2025 on 7 October 2022. Club owner Evangelos Marinakis said on 5 April 2023 that he still had faith in Cooper, but added that results and performances needed to “immediately improve” after a run of disappointing results. and reports that Cooper was threatened with dismissal.
